Beware The Little Piggies
Beware the Little Piggies: A Wake-Up Call from Pastor Jason Mayfield
In this video, Pastor Jason Mayfield delivers a powerful and engaging message titled "Beware the Little Piggies." What starts as a simple look at Deuteronomy 14:8—a verse declaring pigs unclean—quickly turns into a deep spiritual warning about the subtle things that can sneak into a believer’s life and keep them from fully experiencing God’s blessing, favor, and will.
Pigs get a bad rap in the Bible. They aren’t mentioned as often as people assume—only 18 times in total—but every time they show up, it’s negative. The Old Testament law declared them unclean because, while they had the outward appearance of a clean animal (split hoof), they lacked the necessary internal process (chewing the cud). In other words, they looked right on the outside but weren’t right on the inside.
And that’s exactly where the real message kicks in. Pastor Mayfield uses this biblical symbolism to expose three dangerous mindsets—three little piggies—that believers must be aware of and guard against.
Pig #1 – The Pharisee Piggy
This piggy is all about legalism and self-righteousness. Pharisees weren’t inherently bad people; they were simply a sect of Judaism that believed keeping the law could make them righteous before God. But Jesus made it clear—no one is justified by works of the law, only by faith in Him (Galatians 2).
The Pharisee Piggy thrives on focusing more on other people’s sins than personal transformation. Instead of hearing a convicting message and saying, "Lord, change me," this piggy says, "Tell ‘em, preacher! They need to hear that!" It’s easy to get caught up in criticizing culture, politics, or “those people”, while ignoring the areas where God is calling for transformation in your own life.
Pig #2 – The Intellectually Obstinate Piggy
This one’s tricky because it hides behind knowledge. It manifests in two ways:
Academic Arrogance – People get so locked into theological precision that they box God into what they can intellectually grasp. They’d rather debate doctrine than experience God’s power.
Deceptive Depth – People think they’re spiritually deep, but in reality, they have no actual biblical foundation. They’ll spend hours watching conspiracy theories, obsessing over the rapture, or critiquing preachers on YouTube, yet they’ve never actually read the Gospel of Mark.
A perfect example of this mindset is the Samaritan woman at the well (John 4). When Jesus confronted her brokenness, she immediately tried to pivot to theology, asking about where people should worship instead of dealing with her own life. Pastor Mayfield makes it clear—transformation requires engagement, not distraction.
Pig #3 – The Giving-Adverse Piggy
This piggy works overtime to keep faith and finances separate. Pastor Mayfield calls out a harsh reality—many Christians will trust God with their eternal salvation but not with their wallet.
People get nervous when preachers talk about money, but here’s the truth: money already affects every area of your life. Your dreams? They cost money. Your family’s future? It requires financial stability. The Kingdom of God? It advances through generosity.
God isn’t against wealth—He delights in the prosperity of His people (Psalm 35:27). The Giving-Adverse Piggy wants believers stuck in a cycle of scarcity, fearful of sowing, and disconnected from God’s provision. But faith isn’t just for spiritual matters—it should touch every part of your life, including your finances.
Final Challenge: Kick the Little Piggies Out
At the end of the day, these little piggies—legalism, intellectual pride, and financial fear—will rob you of God’s best. They may not look like full-blown rebellion, but they quietly work against transformation.
So here’s the challenge:
✅ Stop pointing fingers—let God do a work in YOU.
✅ Get back to real, rooted, biblical faith.
✅ Trust God with every area—including your finances.
The question is—will you kick the little piggies out, or will you let them keep running your life?
