Bible, Prayer, Worship: My Perfect Morning Formula

Bible, Prayer, Worship: Pastor Jason Mayfield’s Perfect Morning Formula

In this video, Pastor Jason Mayfield walks viewers through his daily quiet time routine—a simple yet powerful framework to kickstart the day in God’s presence. If you’ve ever struggled to develop a consistent devotional life, this might be the formula that finally makes it stick.

The Routine: 27 Minutes with Jesus

Pastor Mayfield has boiled his quiet time down to a structured, no-nonsense process called 27 Minutes with Jesus:

  • 15 minutes of Bible reading

  • 7 minutes of prayer

  • 5 minutes of worship

It’s intentional, effective, and—most importantly—doable. No overcomplicated checklists, no guilt-inducing expectations, just a clear pathway to start every morning centered on the Lord.

Step One: Bible Reading

After brewing a cup of Café Bustelo (because, let’s be honest, the coffee matters too), Pastor Mayfield heads into his office, where the atmosphere is already set. Soft instrumental prayer music plays, the lights are dimmed, and the distractions are minimal. Then, it’s time to read.

Right now, he’s working through the Tear Up Your Bible 90-day reading plan—flying through Scripture at a rapid pace without stopping to take notes. While he’s usually a big advocate for writing in the margins, this season is about reading fast and taking in the Word as a whole.

Step Two: Prayer

When it’s time to pray, Pastor Mayfield has a very intentional approach. He kneels with his face in his Bible—not because it’s a magic formula, but as a tangible reminder of who he’s talking to. Then, his prayer follows a three-part structure:

  1. Thank God for one significant thing (not just filler, but something meaningful).

  2. Ask for three to five specific requests and track how God supernaturally brings them about.

  3. Pray through the Psalms—taking a passage and turning it into a personal prayer.

This keeps prayer focused, intentional, and deeply rooted in Scripture.

Step Three: Worship

To wrap up, he turns on a worship song, lifts his hands, and spends five minutes singing to the Lord. As a preacher, Pastor Mayfield knows firsthand how easy it is to slip into “work mode” during worship at church—always thinking about the service, the sound mix, or the flow of the altar call. That’s why this daily practice is critical. It’s worship in a setting with no production, no performance—just pure devotion.

For everyone else, this step is just as powerful. If Bible reading feels like a struggle, and prayer seems tough, worship is an easy way to finish strong. Turn up the music, sing along, and let the presence of God fill the room.

A Simple Formula for a Powerful Life

Pastor Mayfield doesn’t claim that 27 Minutes with Jesus is the only way to have a devotional life—but it is a proven method that keeps things simple and sustainable.

So, if you’ve been inconsistent in your quiet time, struggling to stay focused, or just looking for a fresh approach, this is your invitation to jump in. Start tomorrow. Set a timer. Give it 27 minutes.

And as Pastor Mayfield would say—keep experiencing grace for life through Jesus Christ.
